But David Cameron's only gone and slagged off t'entire county.

The PM was caught being less than kind about the good people of Yorkshire on Friday, telling an aide via a hot mic: "We just thought people in Yorkshire hated everyone else, we didn't realise they hated each other so much."

While it hasn't been made clear if the retort was intended as a joke, the outlandish claim sparked a backlash, with many people vying to defend their proud homestead.

With that in mind, we've compiled five reasons why Yorkshire is undoubtedly the best place to live in Blighty.

A disgruntled customer of the his Yorkshire Bank local chain decided to change his name by deed poll to "Yorkshire Bank Plc are Fascist Bastards".

The identity change was brought on by the bank's decision to charge 30-year-old Michael Howard £20 for a £10 overdraft. He then demanded they pay back his 69p balance by cheque, made out, nonetheless, to his new name.

Happiness is...living in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, according to the results of a Rightmove survey. (Well, it was definitely not going to be London).

After 24,000 people across the country were polled on how happy and proud they felt with where they lived, this Yorkshire town came out streets ahead.
