The source of a fishy smell wafting from drains in Shropshire has been identified – as a pile of dead piranha fish.

Engineers from Severn Trent Water investigating the blocked sewers in Telford found the mass of fish, which are thought to have been flushed down the toilet by a nearby homeowner.

Matt Final, who investigated the mysterious stench for Severn Trent, said: “We’ve certainly seen some weird things in the sewers over the years but we were a little shocked to remove piranhas!

“You wouldn’t think a fish of this size would fit down a toilet, but this is just one example of amazing things we find blocking the sewers.”

Indeed, Matt, indeed.

Why, in January the company investigated a blockage which was found to have been caused by “piles of pants” that had been flushed down the toilets.

Incredible!
