Donald Trump Accused Of Inciting An, Er, 'Erection' Against The US

A truly historic moment.

We’ve probably all fallen foul of an unfortunate slip of the tongue at some point.

But perhaps not in such style as senior US politician Chuck Schumer pulled off on Friday when he accused former president Donald Trump of inciting “an erection against the United States”.

As he announced Trump’s imminent second impeachment trial, Senate majority leader Schumer said: “Make no mistake, there will be a trial and when that trial ends, senators will have to decide if they believe Donald Trump incited the erection, insurrection, against the United States.”

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take Twitter long to respond.

Schumer might have been left red-faced, but it’s not the first time someone has made the same mistake in front of a huge audience.

Just days ago, US news anchor Anderson Cooper also found himself stating live on air that Trump “did incite an erection on the Capitol. An insurrection on the Capitol”.

Schumer’s unfortunate mistake took place as he announced that the former US president’s second impeachment trial would begin on Tuesday.

It was announced during the Senate majority leader’s speech that the US House of Representatives would send the articles of impeachment to the Senate on Monday, triggering the start of the former president’s trial.
