A donkey has been rescued by firefighters in Switzerland after it became lodged in a manhole. The creature struggled for more than an hour before emergency services managed to prise the ass from its concrete mooring.
The unfortunate beast was discovered by a man walking his dog in the town of Pratteln.
"Any chance some help?"
Urs Meyer told the European News Agency: “My initial reaction was it was a stuffed toy, but then I saw it move its ears and shake its head, and I realised it was real… I don’t know how the manhole cover ended up being moved but the donkey had clearly fallen inside and was stuck there.”
According to local police, the donkey belonged to a farmer who said it had gone missing the day before.
