From policing the border to prevent migrants entering the country to David Cameron's 'war on gulls', it seems seagulls are the the go-to story of the summer...

As seagulls have become a hazard for whales in one of their prime birthing grounds, provincial authorities are planning to have police shoot the gulls. Environmentalists are crying foul, saying officials should instead close a nearby garbage dump and stop fishermen from dumping scraps to reduce the gulls' numbers. FILE - In this Jan. 26, 2014 file photo, a dove which was freed by children flanked by Pope Francis during the Angelus prayer, is chased by a black crow in St. Peter's Square, at the Vatican, Sunday. Balloons, not doves, were released as peace symbols Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015 in St. Peter's Square, a year after an attack by a seagull and a crow on the symbolic birds sparked protests by animal rights groups. For years, children, flanking the pope at a window of the papal studio overlooking the square, have released a pair of doves on the last Sunday in January, a month the Catholic church traditionally dedicates to peace themes.
