A woman has been charged with outraging public decency after a war memorial was allegedly urinated on.

Kelly Martin, 42, was charged with outraging public decency on Saturday in connection with an incident in Grays, Essex Police said.

Pictures on social media on July 1 alleged an offence was being carried out, as the nation marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, which claimed thousands of British lives in 1916.

Martin, of Lucas Road in Grays, has been remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Magistrates Court on Monday, The Press Association reports.
