Donald Trump Destroys Any Remaining Credibility With These Comments On John McCain's War Record

Donald Trump Destroys Last Remaining Credibility With These Comments

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has continued his manifesto of hate, launching a public attack on respected former leadership nominee Senator John McCain.

Trump slammed McCain's military history at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa and said: "He's a war hero because he was captured.... I like people who weren't captured". The candidate, who has never served time in the military himself, enraged already critical commentators and some claimed that he should withdraw from candidacy.

He has previously launched abuse at the Mexican community, stating that they are: "People that have lots of problems" and that: "They're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."

The former Texas governor Rick Perry said the remarks represented “a new low in American politics” and demanded that Trump “immediately withdraw from the race for president”.

His comments come just weeks after he critisised Hillary Clinton's campaign, stating on his Facebook page: "Hillary should spend more time producing her illegally hidden emails and less time trying to obfuscate a statement by me that is totally clear and obviously very much accepted by the public as true."

Despite appearing to offend everyone, his outlandish claims have appeared to help the real estate mogul. He surprisingly sits in first place on the Republican candidate league table.

Twitterverse was quick to react to the comments and some appeared to be actual fans of the Republican:

Others were not so supportive of the 'offensive' New Yorker:

McCain spent five and a half years in a North Vietnam prison where he was tortured. President Barack Obama, who rivalled McCain in the 2008 presidential race, praised the Arizona senator as a "genuine war hero."
