Channel 4 Launch 'Date Night': TV Show Will Allow Viewers To Date People They See On Screen

Looking For Love?

Love is in the air at Channel 4 as the broadcaster revealed it will offer viewers a chance to date people they see on screen.

The six-part series, with a working title of 'Date Night', will film singletons as they go on dates looking for love.

If sparks do not fly unsuccessful daters will be able to make a pitch to viewers at home who can apply to join them on a date in the next episode.

The show, which will be broadcast next year, will follow in the footsteps of hit matchmaking shows 'Blind Date', 'Take Me Out' and 'Streetmate', hosted by Davina McCall on Channel 4.

It is part of a series of commissions called 'The Mating Season'.

It includes a series of half-hour dramas called 'Dates' and a documentary set in sexual health clinics in London and Birmingham.

Channel 4's Head of Factual Ralph Lee said: "This season explores the complexities and nuances of forming relationships in 2013. Dating has profoundly changed over the past 10 years in Britain. The mammoth online dating industry has transformed the art of finding love - there are new rules and new codes of conduct. But at a time when internet dating has made it easier than ever to find dates this season explores why it can seem harder than ever to find your perfect partner."

There will also be a second series of 'The Undateables' which follows people who struggle to find love because of a disability or long-term condition.
