An exhibition of sets and props from comedy series 'Friends' to be held in east London next month sold out in record time on Wednesday.

Comedy Central says it will painstakingly recreate the set of Monica and Chandler's apartment, which was home to all of the main characters at some point during the sitcom's run.

Visitors will be free to roam the set, standing in the space used for classic scenes like Joey's Thanksgiving challenges, Phoebe's annoyance at PBS, and the appearance of the Holiday armadillo.

There will be a New York courtyard set, and a café based on Central Perk. LazyBoy recliners similar to Joey and Chandler's will also be on display - with visitors able to kick back and relax just like in the show.

Organisers are also hoping to display a host of props and other memorabilia familiar to the the show's legions of fans.

The event, named FriendsFest, will last five days and be held at The Boiler House in Brick Lane, east London.

Tickets were on sale for £5 each on Comedy Central's website on Wednesday afternoon - but fans had to act quickly. Tickets reportedly sold out in less than 13 minutes.

Comedy Central UK is thought to be preparing another sale of tickets, though this has yet to be confirmed.

Famously highly-strung, Monica would now have discovered a new zen way of life after raising twin babies with no one but Chandler for company out in the suburbs. The rest of the gang don't come around as much when Chandler's not home, because Monica makes them do shots of wheat grass and listen to whale sounds. After moving out to the suburbs with his wife and twin babies, we're expecting Chandler to have really settled down and, would now spend his days leaving work at 5pm sharp, playing catch in his backyard and wondering aloud: "Could I BE anymore of a good dad?" (credit:Getty Images)

In 'Friends' spinoff 'Joey' we all saw (because, of course, we all watched it) Joey head off to California to chase his acting dream.Well... unfortunately that didn't work out. We're expecting now that Joey lives in Monica and Chandler's basement. We're also expecting they don't know anything about it. (credit:Getty Images)
Rachel Green - Jennifer Aniston(05 of08)

Presumably working some class of high-power fashion job in-between raising her 12-year-old daughter (yep, Emma would be 12 now...), we think Rachel would be pretty happy with her lot in life, though we might think twice before talking about Brad Pitt around her... (credit:PA)

Staged a successful protest to stop Central Perk being turned into a Starbucks. He can still occasionally be found in the bushes outside Ross and Rachel's house. You know, for old times' sake. (credit:PA)

Still surprising Monica and Chandler everywhere they go, with a shriek of "OH MY GOD" every single time, of course. (credit:Getty Images)
