'Mrs Brown's Boys' Named 'Best Sitcom Of 21st Century', And People Are Not Impressed

The poll has sparked plenty of conversation.

‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ has been named the best sitcom this century so far, in a Radio Times poll.

The BBC comedy came out top in a poll of 14,000 who picked from a shortlist of 20 other sitcoms to come out this year.

Brendan O’Carroll - who created the show and plays the titular ‘Mrs Brown’ - says: It vindicates the fans’ belief in the show. They have kept us on the air – it certainly wasn’t the reviewers.

Indeed, as Brendan notes, the show has received huge viewing figures over its years on the air, although reviews haven’t always been so glowing.

And despite the fact it won the Best Sitcom Of The Century title from a poll voted in by members of the public, it seems people on Twitter are less convinced of how deserving it is:

Others, meanwhile, have defended its victory, insisting that the show is deserving of the title.

‘Mrs Brown’s Boys’ first began as a radio play, before making the jump to live theatre and eventually a TV sitcom in 2011.

Since then, it’s been one of the BBC’s highest-rated shows, and spawned a film, ‘Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie’ in 2014, though plans for a sequel were reportedly shelved recently.

Other sitcoms to make the top five included ‘The Office’, ‘Peter Kay’s Car Share’, ‘Gavin And Stacey’ and ‘Peep Show’.

Long before taking on the role of Sickboy in 'Trainspotting', the actor made an appearance in the now iconic sitcom.

Dominic's instantly recognisable to many TV fans nowadays, thanks to the fact he plays Emmerdale's Paddy Kirk.

However, before soapland came knocking, he popped up in one episode of this show, playing an unnamed petrol station assistant.
