Scotland Decides. Twitter Responds With #ScottishFilms (Sort Of)
|

As the hours tick by and we wait for Scotland to decide its fate, Twitter does what it does best... whiles away the hours doing something worthwhile to help elevate the debate, and keep the politics at the front of our consciousness.

Which is why #ScottishFilms is trending. In celebration of our continued democratic process, we give you (our 10 favourite so far, but the polls haven't closed yet...)

And our current fave...

How the papers greeted this historic day...

Scotland Referendum Front Pages
The Scotsman(01 of11)
Open Image Modal
Ugh, where to begin? This combines a deadly-dull headline (we know it's a big day, people) with the most insanely boring picture you could choose.
Metro(02 of11)
Open Image Modal
YAWN. Come on, folks.
The Scottish Sun(03 of11)
Open Image Modal
After dropping lots of hints about maybe backing independence, Rupert Murdoch punted and told the Scots to do their own thing and literally make up the front page themselves. Guess how that went? It's just a rule that when you do a "you decide!" front page like this, you are shirking your duties. For shame, Rupert!
The Herald(04 of11)
Open Image Modal
Points for nice picture, demerits for boring headline.
Daily Record(05 of11)
Open Image Modal
The Record is one of several papers to quote from Scotland's bard, Robert Burns, which adds a nicely poetic air to things, but everything else about this front page kind of sucks. (Using kids is cheesy, and that headline is the equivalent of a shrug.)
The Times(06 of11)
Open Image Modal
The Times gets marks for its choice of picture, and for actually putting an opinion on its front page. But, yet again, "Scotland decides"??? We thought the folks across the pond were all about the great headlines, but this is just terribly disappointing.
Scottish Daily Mail(07 of11)
Open Image Modal
OK, now we're getting somewhere — the flags tied together, the urgent text, the stark background. Nicely done!
Daily Mirror(08 of11)
Open Image Modal
The Mirror decides that, instead of quoting old Scottish poets, it's going to cite the equally important Thelma Houston for its front page. We love that.
Daily Express(09 of11)
Open Image Modal
A nice, straightforward plea against independence, with the added bonus of the two flags on a hill motif.
The Guardian(10 of11)
Open Image Modal
The Guardian leaps ahead on the basis of this absolutely gorgeously designed front page, despite its clichéd headline.
The Daily Telegraph(11 of11)
Open Image Modal
Now this is a front page. It combines all the good things about the other front pages and then does them better.
