Anne Kirkbride Receives British Soap Award Nomination For Infamous Deirdre Barlow Trifle-Throwing Scene

Anne Receives Posthumous Soap Award Nomination

Anne Kirkbride has been nominated for a posthumous British Soap Award.

SEE MORE:

The actress played Deirdre Barlow in ‘Coronation Street’ for over 40 years, until her death at the age of 60, last year.

Her final scene as Deirdre wasn’t an especially serious one, but it was typical of the beloved soap character, seeing her angrily throw a trifle at the wall before running off in tears, claiming: “Jelly shouldn’t run. It should wobble.”

The incident with the trifle pushed Deirdre to breaking point at a tricky time in her personal life, leading the character to take some time away from the cobbles, while in real life Anne was taking a break from the soap.

Deirdre’s outburst has now received a nomination for Best Scene at this year’s British Soap Awards, but she’ll have some stiff competition from the train crash in ‘Hollyoaks’ and the surprise return of Kathy Beale during ‘EastEnders’ live week.

"We’re proud of all our ‘Coronation Street’ nominees this year."
