Spice Girls Tour: Mel B Quickly Backtracks After Joking She 'Needs The Money' For Reunion Shows

"I actually don’t need the money because I’m actually quite rich."

Mel B swiftly backtracked after joking she was taking part in the new Spice Girls reunion tour because she “needs the money” following her divorce.

After announcing their six-date stadium jaunt earlier this week, Mel and her three returning bandmates are now on the promo trail, and made a stop at the Heart breakfast show on Wednesday, where Emma Bunton is a regular presenter.

During their group interview, the band played a game of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’, where they were presented with quickfire questions.

When host Jamie Theakston asked who “needs the money most” of the returning four, Mel joked that it was her, adding: “Because I’m divorced!”

Geri Horner noted: “Do you know what, I love her honesty. Don’t you just love that? A breath of fresh air! Bulletproof.”

However, shortly afterwards, Mel had clearly changed her mind about her answer, and interjected: “Actually, can I just rectify... I actually don’t need the money because I’m actually quite rich. I’m just doing it because I love you ladies! That’s all!”

The interview also saw Mel claim that the group were recording an album (which the rest of the band quickly insisted was not the case), as well as saying that Victoria would be joining them on stage at Wembley Stadium on 14 June (even though their actual Wembley show is scheduled for 15 June).

Victoria has since reiterated her original statement, that she sends her old bandmates “so much love and fun”, but won’t be taking to the stage due to “business commitments”.

Earlier that day, the band also paid a visit to Chris Evans’ Radio 2 breakfast show, where Mel couldn’t resist a dig at Geri, over her former romance with the host.

Tune into Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton, weekdays from 6am.

Jonathan Jackson (03 of40)

In the 1990s there were a lot of heartthrobs named Jonathan -- Brandis, Taylor Thomas and Jackson. Jackson played a clever teen who tricked his parents into sending him to a fake camp alongside Andrew Keegan and Christopher Lloyd in "Camp Nowhere." Fans of Jackson will know him from his long-time role on "General Hospital." (credit:Getty)

Daniel Johns of Australian rock band Silverchair always made it into those teen magazines. At 14 he and his bandmates hit it big with their debut album "Frogstomp." As the teenage frontman who kinda looked like Kurt Cobain, it's no wonder he ended up in Tiger Beat. (credit:Getty)

Macaulay Culkin (09 of40)
Open Image Modal
Two words: "Home Alone." Macaulay Culkin was a child star turned pre-teen idol. With hits like the "Home Alone" series and "The Good Son," Culkin was the golden boy of the early '90s. His star burned out quickly, as his teen years were nothing but box office bombs -- "The Pagemaster," "Getting Even With Dad" and "Richie Rich." Culkin married actress Rachel Miner in 1998 and divorced her two years later. (credit:Getty)

At 31 years old, Culkin's days as a child star are long behind him. After a nine year break from acting, Culkin began taking small roles in TV and movies. He currently is the voice of several characters on the cartoon show "Robot Chicken." And perhaps most notably, he ended a seven-year relationship with actress Mila Kunis in early 2011. (credit:Getty)
Jonathan Taylor Thomas (11 of40)

Who didn't have a crush on JTT in the '90s? As the smart-aleck Randy Taylor on "Home Improvement," teen and tween girls would tune in just to see him each week. When he left the show in 1998 to attend Columbia University, we stopped watching. (credit:Getty)

Leonardo DiCaprio was undoubtedly the biggest teen idol of the '90s. While "Leo-mania" didn't really hit until 1997 with his star-making role in "Titanic," teens went crazy enough for him that it won him the title for the decade. (credit:Getty)

Like many of peers, White also found it hard to shake his nerd rep as Steve Urkel, and floundered a bit after "Family Matters" was cancelled in 1998. At the age of 34, he has a couple of short-lived sitcoms under his belt, along with some guest apparences. His latest project is a web series he both writes and produces called "Fake It Till You Make It." (credit:Getty)

Even before the success of teen soap opera "Dawson's Creek," Joshua Jackson was known for his role in "The Mighty Ducks" franchise. James Van Der Beek will forever be Dawson Leery of "Dawson's Creek." He became the icon for sensitive (whiny) teens everywhere. Joey Lawrence (25 of40)
