'Friends' Director Reveals His Favourite Ever Scene

Everyone's got a favourite 'Friends' scene - and, as it turns out, that includes even the show's director James Burrows.

The TV veteran was speaking to The Hollywood Reporter and musing on the more than 1,000 episodes of situation comedy he has directed in his long career, when he was asked for his very favourite scene from the hit show, that made household names of Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and Courtenay Cox.

Ross and Rachel's relationship was just one of the aspects of 'Friends' that kept viewers hooked

“One of my favourites was the prom video (during which Rachel finds out that Ross was prepared to be her backup date),” he said.

"For me, one of the best things is at the end, when they’re all watching it, and Jennifer gets up and slowly crosses the stage to Ross.

"I remember ('Friends' co-creator) David Crane saying to me, ‘Isn’t that (walk) too long?’ But it was a great moment. You don’t know what she’s going to do, and all of a sudden she kisses him."

James isn't alone in loving this scene, which is always included in top ten lists of best-ever 'Friends' moments. It heralded the on-off relationship between Ross and Rachel that would keep fans enthralled for the remainder of the show's long run. Lows included "We were on a break" as Ross admitted to another dalliance, while highs included the unforgettable arrival of Rachel at Ross's London wedding, just before he mistakenly called his new bride 'Rachel' instead of an understandably upset Emily.

Despite his affection for the characters, James Burrows also explained why he had Ross and Rachel split up for a while, saying: "They flirted for a lot longer, but you have to shake it up. … If you don't fight, and if you don't get angry, you have no place to go."

As Chandler's brief time living with Eddie grew to a close, he became an even more odd creation, but it would have been great if the writers had cranke it up another notch with his strangeness, or at the very least showed us what happened when he was shown the door.Where did he go? It's always great when one of the characters' family members arrive, because they remind you of how they used to be - and that's never more true than when Rachel's sister Amy arrives on the scene. She's even more spoilt, and cares less about other people's feelings, than Season One Rachel, though with slightly less iconic hair. (No offence to Christina Applegate, of course).
