James Corden has signed a deal to star as Britain's Got Talent winner Paul Potts in a new Harvey Weinstein film.

The Daily Mail reports that Corden, who rose to fame as Smithy in BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey, has been working with director David Frankel (who made The Devil Wears Prada) on the screenplay.

The film called One Chance will tell the story of Potts' rise to fame, from mobile phone salesman to opera singing sensation, and the disasters he experienced along the way, before going on to win the first series of Britain’s Got Talent.

Filming will start after Corden's wedding to Julia Carey in September and The Mirror reports the comedian has lost so much weight in recent months he may be forced to pile pounds back on or wear extra padding for the role.

The film will further secure Corden's fame Stateside. This week he scooped a best actor Tony Award for the National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway.
