Glastonbury 2016: Jeremy Corbyn Cancels Festival Appearance, After EU Referendum Result

Instead he'll be 'focussing on the issues' at hand.

Jeremy Corbyn has pulled out of a planned appearance at the Glastonbury music festival this weekend.

The Labour party leader had initially been scheduled to front a question and answer session on Sunday afternoon (26 June) entitled, ‘Jez We Can: Jeremy Corbyn In Conversation’.

However, following the results of the EU referendum, in which Britain voted to pull out of the European Union, Jeremy has confirmed that he will no longer be appearing.

A spokesperson has confirmed that he will instead be “focussing on the issues”, following the “momentous” Brexit news.

Since it was confirmed that the vote had gone in favour of leaving the EU, several influential British celebrities have voiced their concerns on social media, including JK Rowling, Lily Allen and James Corden.

Meanwhile, the official Glastonbury Twitter account also posted a poignant poem, describing the scene as festival-goers learned of the decision.

Glastonbury got underway on Friday (24 June), with Muse headlining the first night of the Pyramid Stage.

Adele and Coldplay will also be headlining over the weekend, while Electric Light Orchestra will follow in the footsteps of Dolly Parton, Lionel Richie and Dame Shirley Bassey by performing in the ‘legends’ slot.

Jeremy Corbyn has been heavily criticised for his lack of involvement in the campaign trail leading up to the referendum, and is now thought to be facing a leadership challenge as early as this weekend after furious Labour MPs blamed him for Brexit.
