Bake Off's Laura Adlington Reveals How Fellow Contestant Cheered Her Up During Covid Recovery

"It's all a ball ache," the GBBO star said of contracting coronavirus days before Christmas.

Great British Bake Off finalist Laura Adlington has revealed she has contracted coronavirus just days before Christmas

The amateur baker revealed that her fellow contestant Lottie Bedlow had surprised her with a thoughtful gift while she recovers.

Laura described testing positive for coronavirus just before the festive period as “a ball ache”, but admitted Lottie’s chocolates had made her feel “infinitely better”.

Posting on her Instagram Story, she wrote: “Getting Covid right before Christmas is a ball ache, but having friends like @lottiegotcake makes it infinitely better. Thank you lover.”

Laura made it to the final of this year’s Bake Off alongside David Friday and eventual winner Peter Sawkins.

The series was able to film during the pandemic as all of the cast and crew had to live in a self-contained biosphere for six weeks at Down Hall in Essex so they could film without having to socially distance on camera.

The hosts, judges and bakers lived alongside 80 members of the production team, 20 hotel staff, and around 20 “children, chaperones and dog walkers” during the six-week shoot.

Prior to moving in to the hotel, everyone had to self-isolate for nine days and take three Covid tests to ensure they did not have the virus.
