Ryan Murphy's First Netflix Series The Politician Boasts Gwyneth Paltrow And Jessica Lange Among Cast Members

The TV giant is pulling out all the stops for his Netflix debut.

Ryan Murphy has assembled a seriously impressive cast for his first Netflix series, The Politician.

Best known for his creations Glee and the anthology series American Horror Story and American Crime Story, the producer signed a five-year deal with Netflix last year, believed to be worth $300 million.

New information about Ryan’s first collaboration with the streaming platform, The Politician, has now been teased, including the fact it’s set to debut on 27 September.

The Politician will reunite Ryan with former Glee star Gwyneth Paltrow, the wife of its co-creator Brad Falchuk, as well as Jessica Lange, who won two Emmys and a Golden Globe for her work on American Horror Story.

She also starred as Joan Crawford in Feud, opposite Susan Sarandon’s Bette Davis.

Pitch Perfect actor Ben Platt will take on the lead role of Payton Hobart, a wealthy teenager who dreams of one day becoming US president, but must first rise to the top of the student body at his high school.

A press release announcing the show teases: “Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image. Full of dark comedy and sly satire, Ryan Murphy’s The Politician offers a rare glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.”

Joining Ben in the cast will be stars including Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bob Balaban, David Corenswet, Julia Schlaepfer, Laura Dreyfuss, Theo Germaine, Rahne Jones and Benjamin Barrett, all of whom will be series regulars.

See, we told you it was an impressive cast.

Ryan’s second collaboration with Netflix, Ratched, is also set to debut later in 2019, starring Sarah Paulson in the titular role, made famous in the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.

In his past shows, Ryan has become known for frequently working with the same actors across his various TV projects, including the likes of Evan Peters, Lea Michele, Darren Criss, Emma Roberts and Cody Fern.

His show Pose debuted on BBC Two earlier this week, featuring the largest cast of transgender actors in a scripted series.
