“They want to spend as much time together as possible and this would be a huge bonding experience as she’s already been helping with his research into the character.”

Rihanna has cut her teeth in the film world already, after starring in one of the leading roles in ‘Battleship’, as well as cameo appearances in ‘Bring It On 2’ and ‘Annie’.

Although Leonardo’s representative has denied that he and RiRi are an item, they have been spotted looking cosy in public on a number of occasions.

Away from her reported return to the world of acting, Rihanna unveiled her first solo material in almost three years last month, when the track ‘Towards The Sun’ received its first play on UK radio with no fanfare or prior warning.

Weeks earlier, she released ‘FourFiveSeconds’, a collaboration with Sir Paul McCartney and Kanye West which reached number three in the UK singles chart.

Rubbish Films Starring Pop Stars
Christina Aguilera in 'Burlesque'(01 of16)

'Burlesque' starts off as a camp musical, but takes a downward turn towards the end, and winds up being more about planning permission and property law, than sequins and feather boas.Despite the confusing turn of events in the film's latter half, Xtina's co-star, Cher, is flawless throughout. But you could probably assume that for yourself. (credit:c.ScreenGem/Everett/REX)

Come on, RiRi. If you were going to star in a film about a board game you could have at least picked a more interesting one. (credit:Universal/Everett/REX)
Madonna in 'Body Of Evidence'(03 of16)

Throughout it all, Madonna has insisted she's not a bad actress, she's just been in a lot of bad movies.Narrowing those "bad movies" down to just one is not an easy task, but among the worst is surely 'Body Of Evidence', which did its best to cash in on the 'Basic Instinct'/'Fatal Attraction'/'Single White Female' style of female-led thrillers at the time.To no avail, sadly for Madonna, whose career took an out-of-character wobble shortly after this film came out. In 2010, Mariah Carey blamed the 9/11 terrorist attacks for the fact that 'Glitter' was a flop at the box office, claiming that because it hit cinemas on 11 September 2001, not a lot of people actually got to see it.She told PA: "Could there be a worse day for that movie to come out? If I could go back in time and not do it, yeah, I would definitely not do it." (credit:c.20thC.Fox/Everett/REX)

File this under: 'films that didn't ever need to exist ever. Ever'The 'double' in the title refers to the fact the group discover in the film they've been unwittingly cloned, rather than the fact it's 'double' the length it needs to be. (credit:Tim Rooke/Rex)
Nicki Minaj in 'The Other Woman'(08 of16)

The unfortunate thing is that Nicki wasn't even close to the worst thing about 'The Other Woman', it's just a shame that this was the film she chose to launch her live-action film career with... (credit:c.20thC.Fox/Everett/REX)
Beyoncé in 'Obsessed'(09 of16)

After starring in her fair share of less-than-well-received films, Beyoncé finally started getting some recognition for her role in the musical, 'Dreamgirls', that saw her playing to her strengths and belting it out like the best of them. And then she went and spoiled it all by saying something stupid like 'Obsessed' (and yes, that is Idris Elba). If you only got into Taylor Swift once she released '1989', it might have completely escaped your attention she was once in 'Valentine's Day', one of those heinous 'New Year's Eve'-type films that focus on about a hundred different characters over the course of one day. McFly in 'Just My Luck'(13 of16)

Back when McFly still looked like this, they starred opposite Lindsay Lohan and Chris Pine in 'Just My Luck', an ill-fated Disney film that hasn't exactly stood the test of time, but at least it gave Harry Judd an extra notch on the ol' bedpost... (credit:Jonathan Hordle/REX)
Britney Spears in 'Crossroads'(14 of16)
Open Image Modal
The most far-fetched part of 'Crossroads' wasn't three young women going on a cross-country drive to find one of their mothers, only for them to fear they'd picked up a felon along the way.No, it was the idea that Britney Spears could write a song like 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman', and then suddenly put it to music the exact second Justin Long started strumming his guitar.Nope. Kelly Clarkson in 'From Justin To Kelly'(15 of16)

Now, in Kelly Clarkson's defence, she never actually wanted to do this film, but was required to as part of her 'American Idol' contract, after she was crowned the show's first ever winner. She later admitted: "I knew when I read the script it was going to be real, real bad, but when I won, I signed that piece of paper, and I could not get out of it."'From Justin To Kelly' is constantly listed among the worst films ever made, but she did later give us 'Since U Been Gone' and 'What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)', so all is definitely forgiven.
