Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were forced to think on their feet when a technical mishap led to things taking a chaotic turn in Thursday’s This Morning.

During the live show, the time came to play Spin To Win, in which Phillip and Holly spin a wheel to randomly decide which prize one lucky viewer has won for themselves.

However, things didn’t quite go to plan, as the wheel – which usually descends from the studio ceiling – refused to budge.

Fortunately, though, Phillip was able to come up with a suitably ridiculous alternative.

The wheel is stuck in the roof, we can’t get it down,” he explained. “So instead, we’re playing Dip To Win – there’s loads of prizes up for grabs.”

“Dip To Win” was a new game concocted by Phillip himself, consisting of pulling out a piece of paper with a prize written on it out of a coffee cup.

One such prize was a This Morning goodie bag, but with the usual “bag of shizzle” (Phillip’s words, not ours) stuck with the wheel, the presenters were once again left to their own devices, putting together a bag of, as Holly put it, “stuff that was already lying around the set”.

These magnificent prizes included signed photos of the presenters, a random jigsaw and eight plastic cups, ideal for picnics.

But this isn’t the first time the duo have experienced technical difficulties with the pesky Spin To Win wheel.

Only a month ago, Phillip got a telling off from producers when he attempted to spin it from the top of a ladder, after it once again got stuck mid-descent.

It’s been an eventful few weeks for This Morning, which is still being broadcast daily live from the studio, albeit with Phillip and Holly remaining two metres away from one another due to social distancing measures.

Earlier this week, former Coronation Street star Nicola Thorp had a mishap of her own, crashing the house boat she lives on live on air.

This Morning airs every weekday from 10am on ITV.
