David Tennant's Virgin Media Ad Pulled After Doctor Who Complaint

Virgin Media Ad Pulled Amidst Dr Who Complaint

A Virgin Media advert featuring actor David Tennant has been pulled following an allegation from BBC bosses that it played on the Doctor Who brand.

Tennant, who portrayed the Time Lord between 2005 and 2010, teamed up with Virgin founder Sir Richard Branson to showcase a new product bundle, which makes the on-demand TV service standard for the first time.

The Doctor Who logo was clearly visible during the promo, prompting BBC Worldwide bosses to object to the campaign on the grounds it breached its guidelines governing the commercial endorsement of third parties.

Virgin executives have now pulled the commercial and a joint statement from the two companies reads, "Virgin Media has listened to concerns raised by BBC Worldwide about perceived commercial endorsement by a BBC brand relating to the recent Virgin Media ad.

"As a gesture of goodwill, Virgin Media has agreed to withdraw the ad and BBC Worldwide is satisfied that the issue has been addressed."
