'Good Morning Britain' Facing The Axe

‘Good Morning Britain’, the ITV breakfast show fronted by Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard, could be axed after just one month on air, according to reports.

The show replaced ‘Daybreak’, however despite bosses’ best efforts, ‘Good Morning Britain’ has failed to pull in viewers.

A source has now told The Sun that the show “cannot survive” with such low ratings.

“No-one is expecting to beat the BBC and no-one is expecting to get over a million viewers,” the source said. “But we do want it to get above 15 per cent — or it is toast.”

The source adds that bosses are planning to wait a little longer before axing the show.

“[ITV’s Director of Television] Peter Fincham has too much riding on this,” they said. “It will get at least six months. Then it could just go and be replaced by cartoons.”

Last Monday, ‘Good Morning Britain’ saw its lowest ever audience, with just 270,000 people tuning in while 1.17 million watched BBC Breakfast.

Susanna is reportedly being paid £400,000 per year at ITV and her presenting skills have been praised by her former BBC colleague Bill Turnbull.

Last month the presenter received an apology from Freddie Starr, who stormed out of an interview when she posed a question about the sex abuse allegations he has previously faced.

All charges against the comedian have been dropped however Freddie declined to discuss the matter with Susanna and left the interview.
