'Great British Bake Off' Review: After Last Week's Dramatics, This Week It All Went Pear-Shaped

After the dramatics of last week, it was back to business as usual for the contestants in the Bake Off tent.

The pies and tarts party provided little by the way of controversy - Martha's cling film trick with the pasty was a Jedi trick to behold, but her little teenage face crumpled under Paul's harsh words. Norman got slap-happy with the icing sugar, and we learned how much we didn't know about blind-baking pastry.

Then, in surely the most bizarre test yet of the series, it was the bakers flying blind, creating some mini pear pies - for once, it was Richard whose offering looked ready for the bin, and Martha whose tears dried quickly as she was congratulated on her fine pear.

Kate's pie tower was a winner

For the showstopper, most contestants opted for hot water crust pastry - well, naturally, as we all would - but it was Kate whose stunning pork pie tower made her this week's star baker. Sadly, Norman's haggis pie wasn't enough to keep him in the tent, despite his quoting Robbie Burns all the while. Give that man his own series.
