INTERVIEW: Jennifer Aniston, Star Of 'Horrible Bosses 2' On 'Awkward' Scenes And The One Line She Couldn't Say

Jen Reveals There Was One Line Even She Couldn't Say...
|

Jennifer Aniston has been giving her career a handbrake turn of late, moving away from the sweet, dippy ingenues with which she made her name and fortune, and putting in performances either harrowing ('Cake') or predatory ('Horrible Bosses'). In the latter, she plays a let's-say-enthuiastic dentist very much abusing her position.

And she's back - for more, with the sequel, costarring once more with Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and her old friend Jason Bateman...

Jennifer Aniston on feisty form as Dr Julia Harris

So Dr. Julia Harris is back.

She's back.

Were you excited to come back and play her again?

Oh God, I couldn’t wait to come back. I couldn't wait. I think I was there--I was probably sitting on the lot in costume the year before just sort of panhandling going, "Come on. Let's do another one." I love it.

Julia's even more outrageous than she was in the first film that one was pretty outrageous. Were you intimidated by that at all?

No. Not at all. Are you kidding? I was excited. The thing with Julia is you can go far with her and its all fair game. There's nothing that she will not do. Obviously.

Is it fun to play those scenes, this time with Jason Bateman?

Yeah.

Because in the last film the scenes were mostly with Charlie Day.

It was with Charlie and a little bit with Sudeikis, but this time with Jason. Especially because Jason's like a brother to me. I've known him for 25 years. We've practically grown up together. You know, his wife is one of my best friends. So it was just a little--there was that moment of like, "Oh this could be awkward. This could be awkward. This is my brother." So yeah, that was fun.

Reunion for the original crew of Jason Sudeikis, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day with Jennifer

Was there anything that was just too hard for you personally to say?

There is one line. It was the only one that I remember saying, "I can't say it" when I came to the moment to say it. And I don't remember what it is.

You're a comedy pro. I mean you were on 'Friends' and done many comedy films. Is it still a challenge to not laugh when some of these outrageous things are happening?

Oh yeah. If there ever comes a day where that is an easy thing then I quit. There's nothing more fun than knowing the giggle is going to happen so you;ve got to hold it together. And sometimes you just can't. That's the fun of it. That's what we do.

When you put on wig and the make-up to play Julia you look very different. Does that help free your inhibitions…

Absolutely. It's part of the costume. [The wig] was like her hat, you know. And it just made it--all of it, her clothes, the make-up--all that costume just adds to the fun of the behavior of her. You notice that my necklace in this sequel is a cock ring. I don't know if you noticed that.

I did not notice that.

Look that up.

'Horrible Bosses 2' is available on DVD from today 30 March. Watch the trailer below...

10 Reasons Why I Love Jennifer Aniston
#10: She totally owned “The Rachel” and has been a hair icon ever since(01 of10)

Lets face it -- Jen has fabulous hair, and in FRIENDS (TV Show), she wore “The Rachel” with confidence and style, never thinking what a style-storm it would create. I should have known -- my That Girl "flip" became its own iconic hair style. So here we are side-by-side, hair-by-hair -- Rachel & Ann Marie! (credit:Getty)
#9: She is a wonderful supporter of St. Jude(02 of10)

When my father was first building St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, he turned to his showbiz pals to help him raise the vital funds. Jennifer continues that tradition year after year, with her passionate devotion to the girls and boys of St. Jude. You can see in her many TV spots for St. Jude (below) just how much the kids adore her. That’s because she’s become a true and beloved member of the St. Jude family.
#8: She played my daughter on TV!(03 of10)

Actors always have a special connection with someone they’ve worked with in the past, and playing Jennifer’s mom on "Friends" made us real friends. When I was offered the role, I jumped at the chance because, by then, the cast had already honed its comic chemistry to an art form, and I couldn’t wait to jump in. It was like being invited to a funny party -- and Jen and I hit it off immediately!
#7: She takes career risks.(04 of10)

Jennifer is fearless, especially when it comes to taking acting risks. Although many still love her as Rachel, the funny and vivacious character she portrayed in "Friends," she isn't afraid to accept the challenge of portraying a person who faces much deeper struggles and doesn’t always look like a million bucks -- like her bold and complicated character in "Cake." I can’t wait for you to see her in this new film -- she’s magnificent! (credit:Getty)
#6: She's in charge of her own style(05 of10)

Jennifer has great style, and sets her own trends (she's next month's InStyle cover girl!). Even more impressive, she customizes her outfits to complement her flair -- whether it’s finding the perfect Saint Laurent jacket to suit her famous frame, or removing the pockets from her Hudson jeans to make for a more perfect fit. She even tinkers with her tees! As she recently told a reporter, “The trick to T-shirts is I that I usually tailor them -- which is silly, but it works!”
#5: She's thoughtful(06 of10)

As they say – it’s the thought that counts. When you make that little gesture of thoughtfulness to someone they never forget it. Like when I was playing Jen’s mom on "Friends," she sent me flowers on Mother’s Day. It was such a loving and thoughtful thing to do. It meant so much to me. And I’ll never forget it.
#4: She’s her own woman(07 of10)

Jennifer doesn’t feels pressured to be what everyone else expects of her to be. She charts her own course and makes her own decisions about what she wants to do -- whether it's getting married or staying single, settling down to start a family or charging ahead with her career (“And why is it that we never ask men these kinds of questions, anyway?” she once said to a reporter.) Amen! Jennifer owns herself and lives her life on her own terms. I love that about her.
#3: She takes fitness seriously(08 of10)

She’s got discipline! It’s no secret that among the many things people admire about Jennifer is her incredible body -- which is fit and healthy and completely ageless! And she works hard at it: She’s vigorous about her workout regimen (five to six days a week, from cardio and spinning, to Pilates and yoga); and her diet plan is as tasty as it is nutritious -- from smoothies in the morning, to soups and salads at night. Discipline folks!
#2: She is a good and supportive friend(09 of10)

Jennifer has been so supportive of St. Jude. Here we are modeling together in a fashion show in LA benefitting St. Jude. The night made a lot of money for the kids -- and it was fun too! Not only is she supportive, Jen is the kind of friend that always has your back. I'll never forget the time we were filming an episode of “Friends,” and I suggested a funny bit of business that I wanted to do in the scene we were working on. The director said, “Nah, let’s not do that,” But Jennifer spoke right up saying, “Hey! She’s the Queen of Comedy!” It was so sweet and encouraging. That’s why her friends adore her.
#1: She's a role model for women everywhere(10 of10)

Some people have talent, some people have looks, some people have smarts or style or just plain decency. Jennifer Aniston is the whole package. I’ve always championed role models, and I think that, over the course of her exciting career, Jen has become someone who girls and women can look up. And as the head of her own production company, she’s shown us how to take the reins in our own lives and make things happen. What can I say? I just love Jennifer Aniston!
