He said: “We do talk about it, and I suddenly think, ‘Oh my goodness I’m such an age now’, but actually that’s rather good, but we better get on with it if we do.”

Stephen also said that he and Elliott were still “in the honeymoon phase”, as he dedicated Ella Fitzgerald’s ‘Do I Love You?’ to his husband.

“I’m still very much in the honeymoon phase. I think we both are, I hope so, and new and miraculous things have happened in our culture and I wanted to celebrate that and what better way than to be married,” he said.

“It’s bliss, I do carry a ridiculous beam on my face.”

During the interview, Stephen also addressed the revelation that he once took cocaine during a visit to Buckingham Palace.

After originally telling the story in his last autobiography, he was asked what Prince Charles would have made of it.

“I think it’s safe to say that he knows I’m naughty, and I think he’s not a judgemental, mean, prissy sort of man,” he said.

“I think he would not be especially pleased at the thought of somebody doing that in the palace but nor would he leap to point you to the exit door and say ‘never return again’.”

Earlier this month, Stephen revealed that he and Elliott had to cut short their honeymoon due to experiencing homophobia in the central American country of Honduras, which is largely Catholic.
