Glastonbury 2016: EU Referendum Reaction At Festival Described In Poignant Poem

'It can't be true, can it, really? It is.'

The Glastonbury festival’s Twitter account has shared a snapshot of how festival-goers are reacting to the news that Britain has voted to leave the European Union.

In the early hours of Friday morning (24 June), the results of the referendum were revealed, with the majority of Britons voting in favour of a Brexit, with those attending Glastonbury slowly learning of the news as the day continues.

A post on the Glastonbury Twitter page has now revealed a poem from writer Jodi Bickley, describing the scene at the iconic music festival right now.

An excerpt reads:

“Everyone is repeating they have no words,
But we’re all full of them.
As the camp wakes up to the news,
Tents come alive with profanity,
It can’t be true, can it, really?
It is.”

Since the results of the referendum were revealed, several influential British celebrities have spoken out against the decision on social media, including ‘Harry Potter’ author JK Rowling, pop singer Lily Allen and TV personality James Corden.

Glastonbury gets in full swing this afternoon, with Muse set to headline on the Pyramid stage later today.

Adele and Coldplay will also take up headlining slots later in the week, with Electric Light Orchestra following in the footsteps of Shirley Bassey, Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie by occupying the ‘legends’ slot on Sunday afternoon.

Things didn’t get off to the best start as people made their way down to Worthy Farm earlier this week, though, with severe weather causing a nightmare for Glasto attendees.
