Jennifer Lawrence Apologises For Controversial ‘Sacred Rocks’ Anecdote

'I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people.'

Jennifer Lawrence has apologised over an anecdote she told about sacred rocks that were “so good for butt itching” Hawaii.

The actress, who was promoting her upcoming film ‘Passengers’, won laughs from the studio audience after recalling the story on ‘The Graham Norton Show’, but the clip went viral on Twitter for all the wrong reasons.

One post declaring it “the whitest story ever told” was retweeted over 1,000 times:

Jennifer has now posted an apology on Facebook:

“I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people,” it reads. “I really thought that I was being self deprecating about the fact that I was ‘the curse’, but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny and I apologize if I offended anyone.”

In the clip from the BBC show, she said: “We were filming in Hawaii and there were sacred rocks.

“They’re sacred and you’re not supposed to sit on them because you’re not supposed to expose your genitalia to them.

“I, however, was in a wetsuit for this whole shoot. Oh my god, they were so good for butt itching.”

Following the apology, many fans have called for critics to lay off, with one commenting on the Facebook post with: “Oh for Gods sake it was funny poking at yourself. People need to get over their stupid feeling that everyone is talking about them! Happy Holidays Jen!” [sic]
