Strictly Come Dancing’ judge Darcey Bussell has admitted she believes Kellie Bright should have triumphed over eventual winner Jay McGuiness on Saturday (19 December) night’s final.

The ballerina has said that the ‘EastEnders’ star deserved to have won the Glitterball trophy after scoring two perfect 40s, and coming top of the leaderboard for her routines.

Speaking on spin-off show ‘It Takes Two’, Darcey said that she “definitely” should have won “without fail”.

She continued: “Her performance brought everything together. There wasn’t a mistake. It was on the money. She had more energy than anybody. She gave everything.”

Fellow judge Craig Revel Horwood seemed to agree, adding: “She turned in the most spectacular two performances.”

Darcey believes Kellie and Kevin should have won 'Strictly'

However, he pointed out that the winner was chosen by the public and not the judges.

“It’s not the best dancer that wins, it’s whoever changes the lives of people at home,” he said.

Jay scored the least points out of the final three on Saturday, having been awarded 110 points out of a possible 120 for his three dances.

Kellie topped the judges scores with 119, while Georgia May Foote scooped 112 points.

Many viewers also took to Twitter to agree that Kellie and her partner Kevin Clifton had been robbed of the title.

However, she later insisted she happy for Jay and his partner Aliona Vilani.

She tweeted: “Just been reading through so many lovely tweets.U have all made me smile and I feel so proud of what @keviclifton and I achieved.#wedidit4u

“Just wanted to say a HUGE congrats to @JayMcGuiness for lifting that glitterball. You are incredible and I love you #proudmum,” she added.
