It's back, and it's looking darker than ever....

Director Christopher has given some tantalising clues to the nature of his villain in his new Batman film, not due in cinemas for another seven months, but highly-anticipated by fans of his bleak blockbuster.

In an interview with theLos Angeles Times, Nolan described Tom Hardy, in his role as villain Bane, a "classic movie monster" with a "terrific brain".

Nolan said, "his physicality is the thing. I think people will be pleased with what we've done with him."

The final part of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy is due in cinemas on July 2012, but we can enjoy some tantalising scene-grabbers in this first trailer above.

All we know so far is:

The film kicks off eight years after the ending of the last one

Hardy as Bane has beefed up almost beyond recognition for his confrontation with the Dark Knight

Some early viewers of film's Prologue complained they couldn't hear Bane speak properly through the mask he wears

Nolan has gone to town with his use of IMAX cameras, in what promises to, once again, raise the bar of what we can expect from a blockbuster.

Cast members include Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and series stalwarts Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.
