Ant and Dec held back tears as they went back to where it all began for them, visiting the set of ‘Byker Grove’.

The much-loved Geordie duo, now best known for hosting the likes of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ and ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’, returned to Benwell Tower in Newcastle, which was used as the backdrop for the children’s BBC series, as part of their new documentary, ‘When Ant & Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years Of The Prince's Trust’.

Ant and Dec returned to Byker Grove

In scenes to air on the show tonight (4 January), both Ant and Dec became visibly emotional as the recalled the memories they had from 1989 playing teenagers PJ and Duncan on the show, which kick-started their careers.

“We had some of the happiest times of our life here,” Dec said.

“Amazing. Changed our life!” Ant agreed.

“We wouldn’t be where we are without it', Dec continued. “I'm getting a little bit emotional talking about it. They were really good times... Wow. Strange, innit?”

In the documentary, the presenters have close access to HRH The Prince of Wales, where viewers will see him talking about the upcoming 40th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust, his life as a grandfather and amusing anecdotes from his days in the Royal Navy.

It also features a contribution from Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who takes them around her own childhood haunts and shares her experiences as an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust.

‘When Ant & Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years Of The Prince's Trust’ airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
