Brit Awards 2012: Adele Apologises For Swearing, Says It Was Aimed At 'The Suits'

Middle Finger Was 'Meant For The Suits'

Adele has apologised for sticking her middle finger up at the Brit Awards crowd as her Awards acceptance speech for Best British Album was cut short. And the singer clarified that the insult "was meant for the suits at the Brits, not her fans".

Brits host James Corden was forced to stop the Someone Like You singer mid-speech, just as she began to thank all those who had helped her with her record-breaking album, in order to allow Blur to kick off their show-closing set.

Speaking afterwards, soul star Adele said: "I'd like to say I got cut off and I did the middle finger, but it was for the suits at the Brits that cut me off, not my fans.

"I'm sorry if I offended anyone, the suits offended me. I'd like to take the chance now, which I didn't get earlier, to thank all of my fans."

Meanwhile, Gavin and Stacey's Corden has also expressed his regret over the incident.

Speaking after the show on ITV2, Corden admitted: "I don't understand quite why I was made to [cut her short]."

He continued: "I was having the best night of my life and then I had to cut Adele off before she's even had chance to say thank you. She's the biggest star in the world. I don't understand what happened but I'm upset about it."

Visibly upset, Corden added: "Blur played for 11 minutes and she didn't get chance to say thank you once."

Despite the glitch, Adele was in high-spirits as she spoke to journalists after picking up her Brit Awards for British Female Solo Artist and Best British Album for 21.

Commenting on the success of her second album, which has now sold over 20m copies worldwide, the London-born star said: "It just goes over my head really. It's phenomenal the success of this album… it carried on without me even when my voice stopped."

Waving and shouting "have a good night" as she left the press conference, the star said: "I'm off to a party - even if I can't get drunk because of my voice."
