What is Deep Water all about?

Deep Water is ITV’s emotional new thriller, which stars Anna Friel, Sinéad Keenan and Rosalind Eleazar.

Based on the Windermere series of novels by critically-acclaimed author Paula Daly, it tells the story of three ordinary family women who make some controversial choices in an attempt to hold everything together and keep their heads above ‘deep water’.

Set against the backdrop of the Lake District, the series takes a look at the pressures of modern family life and the issues it raises.

Sinéad explains: “All three women have secrets. Had Mike Leigh not already taken the title ‘Secrets and Lies’ that could very easily have been the title of this show.

“You have no idea what is going on behind closed doors, Deep Water takes a peek behind those closed doors. Happy families may not be so happy, they rarely are. The ones who you think have a perfect life, you can almost guarantee they don’t, everyone is struggling to some extent.”

Who is in the Deep Water cast?

Anna Friel plays Lisa Kallisto

Lisa is a mother of three who juggles her hectic family life with running a dog kennel business. She is married to Joe who works night and day as a taxi driver.

Lisa is envious of the life of fellow mum Kate, and is delighted when she is invited to a dinner party at her house. However, the evening takes an unexpected turn when she meets Kate’s charming brother-in-law.

She makes a further error when she forgets to pick up Kate’s teenage daughter, Lucinda, from school and the Rivertys place the blame firmly at her door.

Where have I seen Anna Friel before? Most recently, Anna stared in ITV drama Butterfly about a family’s fight for their trans child. She has also appeared in two series of crime noir Marcella in the title role. However, she’s arguably still most famous for playing Beth Jordache in Channel 4 soap Brookside.

Sinéad Keenan plays Roz Toovey

With her home under threat when the bailiffs come knocking, she receives an offer of cash for sex from a wealthy client, and the decision she makes could change the course of her life.

Where have I seen Sinéad before? Sinéad rose to fame in BBC Three’s Being Human, where she played Nina. She later won critical acclaim for her role in ITV’s Little Boy Blue in 2017, in which she played the mother of murdered school boy Rhys Jones.
