The Masked Singer Star Mel B Recalls How She Almost Gave Herself Away Behind The Scenes

The Spice Girls star is famously not the best at keeping secrets, and struggled to keep her identity under wraps backstage.

If there’s one thing Mel B has proved in recent years, it’s that she’s not the best at keeping secrets.

So when the Spice Girls star revealed herself as one of the disguised celebrities during last week’s edition of The Masked Singer, we were genuinely impressed that she’d been able to keep the whole thing under her hat.

As it turns out, though, it was no easy task.

Speaking to Metro after her unmasking aired, Mel revealed she almost gave the game away entirely before filming had even begun, after sporting one too many of her signature accessories behind the scenes.

“You know, [backstage] you have [to wear] a balaclava, visor and a hoodie that says don’t speak to me,” she explained. “You’re completely in disguise.

“I’m a big fan of leopard print so I did arrive with a leopard print bag and my leopard print ear pods that I had to then cover up and hide.

“They were like, ‘no you’re meant to bring everything in plain black’.”

Mel is one of two celebrities who’ve been unmasked so far this series, with Sophie Ellis-Bextor being unveiled the previous week.

Performing in Saturday night’s live show are Sausage, Robin, Swan, Badger and Dragon.

Among the stars rumoured to be under those particular masks are RuPaul’s Drag Race judge Michelle Visage, Loose Women presenter Stacey Solomon and JLS singers Oritsé Williams and Aston Merrygold.

The Masked Singer returns on Saturday night at 7pm on ITV.
