Reese Witherspoon has reflected on her 2013 arrest for disorderly conduct, admitting she’s embarrassed by the incident.

Seven years ago, Reese and her husband Jim Toth were driving in Atlanta, Georgia, when he was pulled over by the police on suspicion of drink-driving.

While Jim later pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, the Legally Blonde star was also arrested when she got out of the vehicle to confront the officers in question, despite being instructed not to by the police.

Two weeks after the arrest, Reese gave her first interview about the arrest on Good Morning America.

She insisted at the time: “It’s just completely unacceptable and we are so sorry and embarrassed. We made a mistake and it was something that will absolutely never happen again.

“We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”

Reflecting on Reese’s Good Morning America appearance on the I Weigh podcast, presenter Jameela Jamil said: “You apologised and shamed yourself in a way that was so fucking refreshing to me. I loved your apology.”

“But I did something really stupid,” Reese interjected. “It was so embarrassing and dumb. But you know what, turns out I breathe air. I bleed the same way. I make dumb decisions. I make great decisions. I’m just a human being.”

The Oscar-winning star continued: “I was always really feisty, my mum called me feisty. Sometimes it was well-directed and sometimes it was not.”

Following her arrest, Reese’s lawyer pleaded no contest to the charges, and she was required to pay a total fine of $313 (£250), which included court costs.

After being found guilty of his DUI, Jim Toth was required to perform 40 hours of community service, in addition to a $600 (£479) fine and mandatory alcohol awareness classes.

In recent years, Reese has made the jump into TV acting, co-producing and starring in Big Little Lies as well as last year’s Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.
