The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations have been announced with British favourite Downton Abbey picking up a nomination for Best Drama Series.
The show will go head-to-head with US heavyweights Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Homeland and Mad Men for the title.
Brit Hugh Bonneville, who plays the Earl Of Grantham in the hit ITV period-drama, was also nominated for Best Actor In A Leading Role. He will face Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston for Breaking Bad, Michael C. Hall for Dexter, fellow-Brit Damian Lewis for Homeland and the much-loved Jon Hamm for Mad Men.
Michelle Dockery will also represent the UK in the US awards, with a nomination for Best Actress In A TV Drama Series for her role as Lady Mary Crawley in Downton Abbey.

She is up against Glenn Close for Damages, Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Kathy Bates for Harry’s Law, Claire Danes for Homeland and Elisabeth Moss for Mad Men.
Meanwhile, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss' Sherlock: A Scandal in Belgravia, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as the top detective, has scooped a nomination for Best TV Miniseries or Movie. Also in the category is American Horror Story,Game Change, Hatfields & McCoys, Hemingway & Gellhorn, and British drama Luther, starring Idris Elba.
The nominations for TV comedy series are as follows: The Big Bang Theory, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, Modern Family, 30 Rock and Veep.
The Emmy Awards will be presented 23 September at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and airing live on ABC.
