'Strictly Come Dancing': Vernon Kay Wants To Step In For Bruce Forsyth And Co-Present With Wife Tess Daly

Vernon Eyes Brucie's 'Strictly' Job

Vernon Kay has admitted he would love to take over from Sir Bruce Forsyth on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, and co-present the series alongside his wife, Tess Daly.

Bruce has hosted the Saturday night dancing show since it first aired in 2004, but announced earlier this month that he was hanging up his dancing shoes and stepping down as presenter, meaning Tess is now looking for a new co-host.

Vernon and Tess have worked on TV shows together in the past, and now he’s admitted to The Mirror he’d love to do it again on ‘Strictly’, saying: “It would be great to work with Tess again. It’s such a good laugh – the relationship on screen is exactly the same as it is at home.

"She is meticulous when it comes to detail, whereas I like riffing and ad-libbing around the script. I don’t necessarily learn it word for word, so Tess keeps me in check. If someone offered us something together, we wouldn’t turn it down."

However, he’s admitted he may have some competition while producers are looking for Brucie’s replacement, saying the ‘Strictly’ presenting job is going to be in high demand.

“What idiot is going to turn around and say, ‘You know what, I do not want to host a Saturday night BBC primetime show that averages 11.5 million viewers a week.’ ”

Well it’s funny you should mention that, Vern, because Graham Norton has given an interview saying he doesn’t think he’d take the job presenting ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ if it were offered to him, joking it sounds like too much hard work.

“I think it’s very hard for a new person to take over, and I’m quite lazy.”

It’s been previously reported that BBC producers are currently eyeingClaudia Winkleman to step in for Sir Bruce, as in the past she’s hosted the ‘Strictly’ companion show ‘It Takes Two’, as well as the Sunday night results shows alongside Tess.

Bruno Tonioli, who has been a judge on the show for all 11 series, has publicly backed Claudia for the job, telling The Mirror: “Claudia’s already known for being on the show. She’s familiar with the viewers and she and Tess have a great relationship.”

‘Strictly’ will be returning to screens later this year.
