Whitney Houston's death has shocked her millions of fans, and her many admirers within the music industry, but none will be reeling from her loss more than the man who discovered her and guided her career - producer Clive Davis.

Houston was discovered dead in her hotel room in Beverly Hills at 3.55pm local time yesterday. She had been due to attend Davis' pre-Grammys party on Sunday evening.

Davis first heard Houston's stunning voice when she was a teenager, and guided her career from her first record-breaking album, containing hits Didn't We Almost Have It All and Saving All My Love For You, through to her highly-anticipated comeback album three years ago, once she seemed to have come through her tumultuous marriage and drug abuse problems.

Bizarrely, Davis was interviewed by Piers Morgan only last night, as he sat alongside Grammy award winner Jennifer Hudson, who described how, as a young girl, she would concoct musical duets with Houston, singing along with her idol's vocals.

During the interview, Hudson explained how she could not dream of living up to the talents of Houston.
