The Whitney Dean actress is launching an assault on the charts.

'EastEnders' actress Shona McGarty is set to follow in the footsteps of former stars Michelle Gayle, Martine McCutcheon, and errrrm, Sid Owen by launching a pop career.

The star, who plays Albert Square's Whitney Dean, has been recording music in secret for the past three years, and is gearing up to release her debut single later this year.

According to The Sun, Shona has been working with Swedish indie singer Axel Janssen, and their track 'Easy As A Dream' is thought to be her first release.

However, the star faces juggling her bid for popstardom with her role in 'EastEnders', which she has been in since 2008.

Some fans may remember this is not the first time that Shona has shown the public her musical side though, as she once performed 'A Change Is Gonna Come' on the BBC's 'Children In Need' telethon in 2012.

Earlier this year, she was also a guest on 'Bruce Forsyth's Hall Of Fame', which honoured the musical greats, where she sang a rendition of Aretha Franklin's 'Chains Of Fools'.

Shona's vocal talents also impressed classical composer Fabio D’Andrea, when they performed together at Henley’s Jazz Festival last summer.
