She added to E! News, "Walking down the carpet holding my girlfriend's hand is pretty special. It's pretty awesome."

Why is this such a glorious thing to behold? Because 18 months ago, Ellen took her courage into her hands and came out in a speech that has been heralded as a piece of profound inspiration for gay people everywhere.

The 'Juno', 'Inception' and 'X-Men' star used her speech at the 2014 THRIVE Conference for LGBT youth in Las Vegas to express her determination not to hide or lie anymore, and that her coming out would prove a comfort for other young people.

She said: "I’m here today because I am gay… I am tired of hiding and I am tired of lying by omission. I suffered for years because I was scared to be out. My spirit suffered, my mental health suffered and my relationships suffered.

"And I’m standing here today, with all of you, on the other side of all that pain."

Ellen broke through with her role of pregnant teenager in 'Juno' and sealed her success with her lead part in Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' and then 'X-Men'. Samantha, also Canadian, is an artist and surfer. The pair are believed to have been dating for several months.
