Idris Elba Responds To ‘James Bond' Role Rumours On Twitter (PIC)

Idris Hits Back At 'James Bond' Role Critics
|

Idris Elba has taken to Twitter to respond to rumours that he could be cast as the next James Bond.

Daniel Craig looks set to sign off as 007 after the next film ‘Spectre’ and Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal thinks the ‘Luther’ star should be the next actor to take on the role, according to an email revealed in the recent Sony Pictures hack.

However, while many fans rejoiced at the idea of Idris becoming 007, a number of people weren’t too pleased.

Amongst them was US commentator Rush Limbaugh, who stated that Idris “can’t be James Bond, because he’s black”.

Now, Idris appears to have mocked such comments with his response on Twitter:

A number of users commenting on MailOnline’s article about whether Idris could become Bond also chose to discuss the Golden Globe-winning actor’s race, with one writing: “Elba is a fantastic actor, but Bond is white. It's that simple.”

In the past, Idris has made no secret of his desire to play the spy, telling Reddit users during an AMA in September: “Yes [I would play James Bond], if it was offered to me, absolutely.”

In recent months, the actor has been focussing on his music career, and recently released an album of music inspired by Nelson Mandela, entitled ‘Mi Mandela’.
