It's Time to Say No to Cynicism!

Life is not a dress-rehearsal and we have to remember that it's all about the now. The philosophy is about stepping into life with passion and pride, believing in yourself and engaging with the world in a positive way. It's about accepting that you may win or you may lose, but life is what you make of it and about how much you believe!

So this morning I sat there with my breakfast and read that the nation's appetite for the future is dwindling and 44 years old is the age when cynicism starts to take hold.

What are we going to do about this?! Why are we such a nation of naysayer? Why so apathetic? Life is beautiful my friends!

This time last year we were getting ready for the Olympic Games, London 2012 was amazing and didn't we do well! As a country we got behind it all, our athletes saw the 1000s of people support them. We were proud to be British and absorbed the positive energy of those around us. Let's take this to the next level, let's maintain this optimism at all times.

As I sit here on my laptop writing this I also realise that technology is amazing. It allows us to do more and be more. Look at the possibilities we now have - Wi-Fi all around us, self-monitoring of health, flexible working, 4G coming this summer, talking to and seeing loved ones from the other side of the planet.

These advances would have been miracles a few years ago. Now we just take it for granted. How can this be? Life is sweet my friends!

So how do we break the nation out of indifference? What is the answer people?

Life is not a dress-rehearsal and we have to remember that it's all about the now. The philosophy is about stepping into life with passion and pride, believing in yourself and engaging with the world in a positive way. It's about accepting that you may win or you may lose, but life is what you make of it and about how much you believe! It's about not letting the world get on top you, realising your potential and grabbing hold of a more exciting future, a future you have built for yourself and that becomes more. It becomes part of someone else's story as well.

So make sure you don't get stuck in a rut, take the easy way out and live life the same way every day - don't hide from the future watching others make their mark on the world. Take my own life story as an example. I was brought up in a children's home and left school with no qualifications. I could have easily sat around and felt sorry for myself...but I didn't. I found the positivity that is still flows from me today, stepped up to the mark and found what life had in store for me - making my way to being a World Champion and Olympic medallist through sheer hard work and total self-belief.

Don't get me wrong, in athletics it wasn't easy and there were plenty of guys who wanted to be the big dog in the house. But sport is like life, it is all about how much do you want it, taking the bull by the horns, living in the moment and pushing yourself to the limit - that's how you know who you really are.

So people, let's prove this O2 research wrong, remember that we are living in an amazing world full of phenomenal opportunity, a phenomenal future. We have had an absolutely amazing week with the Lions and Murray at Wimbledon, now on to the Ashes! We need to remember these successes and take note - not just sitting and watching, but adding some of that excitement, ambition and inquisitiveness to fight for the future to our own lives.
