James Corden Delivers Good News And Bad News About Gavin & Stacey's Future

Fans have been on tenterhooks after Nessa proposed to Smithy in last year's Christmas special.

James Corden has said if he and Ruth Jones do write more episodes of Gavin & Stacey, they will definitely be the last.

The pair have faced pressure to bring back the hit sitcom after the massive success of last year’s Christmas special, which saw over 18 million people tune in.

And while James and Ruth have spent the last 12 months insisting there are no current plans to make more episodes, the Late Late Show host has offered a glimmer of hope – as well as some bad news too.

Speaking to Metro, James admitted he still doesn’t know about the show’s future, but said: “I hope so much we do it.

“The next one will really be the last, final part. And that is a little too much pressure for my chest to take at the moment, if I’m honest, in amongst the anxiety of 2020.

“If I had any notion of trying to make another Christmas special I don’t think I’d be able to breathe.

“So we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But I promise you, we won’t lead you over that bridge unless we think it will be worth the journey.”

The 2020 Christmas special ended with a cliffhanger, when Ruth’s character Nessa got down on one knee to propose to James’ Smithy.

Gavin & Stacey originally ran for three series and a Christmas special from 2007 to 2010.
