National Television Awards 2012 Nominations – Friends And Family To Battle It Out

National Television Awards – Friends And Family To Battle It Out For Top Gongs
|

Even against the cloistered world of the UK television industry, many of the closest competitions for prizes at the next National Television Awards will be fought uncomfortably close to home.

Former stablemates Jonathan Ross and Graham Norton are just two of the stars lining up to take top honours at the ceremony in January.

The chat show rivals have both been nominated for the Best Talk Show category, a year after Ross controversially left the BBC and Norton’s show was moved to his old timeslot.

Other opponents include husband and wife presenters Vernon Kay and Tess Daly, going head to head for the Best Entertainment Presenter award.

Meanwhile, Dermot O'Leary will face his X Factor nemesis Steve Jones. Jones beat O'Leary to the US X Factor presenting job earlier this year, however, O’Leary may have the home advantage here, because he's also got hosting duties on Awards night in January.

Simon Cowell will see his two babies, X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, compete for the Best Talent Show gong.

And there's an upstairs-downstairs battle over at Downton Abbey, with co-stars Brendan Coyle (as John Bates) and Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley) vying for the award for Best Male Drama performance.

The winners are chosen by public vote, so these Awards mean a lot to the nominees whose careers thrive on public approval.

With so many big names cooped together in one small UK television industry, we can expect any simmering rivalries and tensions to come to a suitably dramatic head.
