Rapper T-Pain has sent Robert Pattinson fans into a spin, by appearing to state that the actor is engaged to his longterm girlfriend FKA Twigs.

However, the rapper later appeared to retract his claim, stating that it was all a rather elaborate April Fools Day prank - so what’s the truth?

Wonder how Rob will feel about being called "ol' Patty"?

During his chat with Vulture, which was published yesterday, T-Pain discussed whether he’d be collaborating with Twigs, real name Tahliah Debrett Barnett, on his upcoming album.

“And she’s engaged now, so that’s about to be a whole other thing.”

When the interviewer then pressed T-Pain on his comment, he replied: “Yeah, to ol’ Patty [Robert Pattinson]. I don’t know if she wanted anybody to know that…”

T-Pain then took to Twitter, posting this:

So, let’s just get this straight, T-Pain. You anticipated that the interview would be published on 1 April, and planted a quote about a fake engagement to fool everyone? Hmmm.

The couple’s reps are not commenting on the matter, but two sources have told US mag People that a wedding is on the cards.

Since they began dating in 2014, Rob and FKA have become almost inseparable and the actor joined his girlfriend on her recent tours of the UK and the States.

He was also present to support her at the Brits Awards, and they were also spotted rubbing shoulders with their A-list pals at one of the evening’s after-parties.

Known professionally as FKA twigs, her real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett. The ‘twigs’ in her name refers to the way her joints crack when she dances, with the FKA part standing for ‘formerly known as’ after the group ‘The Twigs’ complained that her name was similar to theirs. Before launching her solo career, she worked as a backup dancer for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Ed Sheeran, Taio Cruz and Jessie J. She was more than qualified for the job, being classically trained in ballet and tap dance. (credit:Maria Jefferis via Getty Images)

When asked her feelings on being classed by some as alt-R&B: "It's just because I'm mixed race,” she told the Guardian, “When I first released music and no one knew what I looked like, I would read comments like: 'I've never heard anything like this before, it's not in a genre.' And then my picture came out six months later, now she's an R&B singer.” (credit:Jonathan Brady/PA Wire)

Despite her high profile relationship, though, FKA twigs sounds more serious about being a musician than a celebrity, telling Pitchfork in an interview: “I love my music, so I want to produce, write, and serve my music. I've had to learn about EQ frequencies, and programming, and space, and clutter, and how to be a better piano or bass player, everything.”Yeah. EQ frequencies. Love it. Born to a Spanish-English mother and Jamaican father, twigs was raised by her mother and stepfather, not meeting her biological father until she was eighteen. Undeniably, performing is in her genes as both her birth parents were dancers themselves. (credit:Jonathan Brady/PA Wire)

Twigs has defended the more sexual elements of her lyrics, telling the Guardian she'd “rather be experimenting with intelligent sexuality” than struggling to conform to society’s expectation. In Papi Pacify the video shows twigs in sensual submission to a male participant. "If I was a mother, I would rather my child watch a video like that and not understand it and be inquisitive about what it means. Be curious about something that's so complicated, rather than watch something really crude and overtly sexual.” (credit:Roger Kisby via Getty Images)

In BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, she also covered Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me’ telling DJ Alice Levine, “There was one line which basically alludes to saying, ‘I’m not in love with you and maybe this isn’t a serious thing, but it’s perfect for right now and it’s what I need emotionally right now,’ and maybe that’s just something that I have related to.” Let's just hope R-Pattz isn't already in too deep!
