'Superstar': David Hunter Sent Home - Has Your Favourite Jesus Made It To The Final?

SUPERSTAR: Which Jesus Wannabes Have Survived?

The final three in the competition to take the lead role in a new production of Jesus Christ Superstar has been revealed.

David Hunter became the last hopeful to be eliminated from ITV1's Superstar ahead of Wednesday night's live final.

The 27-year-old from Warrington said taking part in the contest had been a "fantastic experience".

Rory Taylor beat David Hunter to the final

Lord Lloyd-Webber had to choose between Hunter and Rory Taylor, described by host Amanda Holden as being his best friend, after the pair received the lowest number of viewers' votes.

He said he picked Taylor, 24, from the Wirral, because he thought he was more suited to the "rock arena tour" that Jesus Christ Superstar is going to be, after the singers went head-to-head in a performance of No Matter What from musical Whistle Down The Wind.

Ben Forster, 31, from Sunderland, also stays in the competition along with Roger Wright, 41, from east London. Wright looked surprised to go into the top three automatically after ending up in the bottom two for the previous two shows.

Lord Lloyd-Webber said of all of the singers: "I don't think that there's a reality show that's ever really had this sort of talent at this stage."

He added: "I'm very proud and privileged to have met you guys."

Lord Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice's musical goes on tour in September, featuring comic Tim Minchin as Judas Iscariot, DJ Chris Moyles as King Herod and Melanie C as Mary Magdalene.
