Holly Willoughby And Phillip Schofield Struggle To Keep A Straight Face As 'Bizarre' Easter Bunny Debate Takes A Serious Turn

Nick Ferrari may have taken things a little too seriously during the This Morning discussion.

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were unable to keep their true feelings under wraps when a This Morning debate about the Easter bunny took a rather serious turn.

On Tuesday morning, the two chaired a discussion between Nick Ferrari and Vanessa Feltz, following New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern’s public assurance to the children of New Zealand that the Easter bunny was an “essential worker”, and could therefore still pay them a visit.

However, during the conversation on This Morning, it emerged that Nick was less than impressed with Ardern’s comments.

After Phillip pointed out that “young people do get anxious” during times like these, the LBC presenter responded: “My problem was the expression ‘frontline worker’.”

Phil then pointed out the term used had actually been “essential workers”, to which he continued: “Of course the Easter bunny should still come… [but] when I stand and applaud every Thursday at 8pm, I am not applauding the Easter bunny. I’m applauding the nurses and the doctors and the anaesthiatists and the ambulance drivers.

“And the idea that the Easter bunny… of course I want the Easter bunny to come this weekend, of course the Easter bunny will come… but let’s not liken them to [people] who are putting their lives on the line 24 hours a day.”

This was apparently a turning point for Holly, who had to hide her laughs behind her arm, while Vanessa insisted: “I think [Ardern] was using a little light humour, which is vastly needed at this time.”

Phillip concluded: “We’ve been on this show a long time, but that is possibly one of the most bizarre conversations I have ever had.”

Although the coronavirus outbreak has hugely impacted the TV industry, This Morning is one of the few daily shows that is still airing as usual, albeit with a few changes.

To comply with social distancing guidelines, its hosts must now remain at least two metres away from one another, while most interviews have been happening over video-link rather than in the studio.

This Morning airs every weekday from 10.30am on ITV.

Patrick teamed up with 'Big Brother' host Emma Willis over the summer of 2012. While the pairing was perfectly pleasant, we're still wondering what made producers throw them together. (credit:Rex)

This part of This Morning's 28-year history is often glossed over, but you might just remember Twiggy and Coleen were picked as Richard and Judy's full-time replacements in 2001. They only lasted a few months in the job before being axed. (credit:Rex)
Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton(07 of13)

The former 'Live And Kicking' presenter hadn't been seen on screens for a while when he hosted some shows with Emma Bunton over the summer of 2013. But the pairing proved successful, as the Spice Girl was later hired to co-host his Heart radio breakfast show. (credit:Rex)

We've not heard or seen anything from former 'Blue Peter' presenter Tim in yeaaars, but he did guest host the show with Kate Garraway in 2005.
Denise Van Outen and Richard Bacon(09 of13)

Another random pairing, but both Denise and Richard had experience in hosting morning telly, having previously fronted Channel 4's 'The Big Breakfast', albeit it with separate co-hosts. Here they are on 'This Morning' in 2005. (credit:Rex)
Jeremy Kyle and Kate Thornton(10 of13)

Given his direct, and often rude, approach on his own show, Jeremy seemed a bit of an odd choice to present the warm and friendly 'This Morning' alongside former X Factor host Kate Thornton in 2010. (credit:Rex)

Another 'who the hell stuck these two together?' pairing came in the form of former ITV newsreader Andrea and 'Take Me Out' host Paddy McGuinness, who presented 'This Morning' together for a couple of episodes in 2011. (credit:Rex)
