'Britain's Got Talent' saw its first ever use of the new golden buzzer during Saturday night's series premiere, as Amanda Holden chose to put Paddy and Nico, the salsa dancing duo with a difference, immediately through to the live semi-finals.

The pair - made up of Spanish dance teacher Nico and his 79-year-old student Paddy - got off to a rough start with their audition, with Simon Cowell expressing his disdain for ballroom dance minutes before their performance began.

He even pressed his buzzer in the early stages of their routine, during which they displayed some of their more tame dance moves.

However, by the end of their audition they had wowed the judges and the audience with their routine, which consisted of retired grandmother Paddy being thrown around by her dance partner and displaying some very acrobatic moves.

The clip of their audition has proved popular online, and has currently been viewed over one million times on YouTube - hundreds of thousands of views higher than any other act from the first round of auditions.

Simon has since been forced to eat his words about the pair, and on Sunday it was reported he’s even backing them to win.

However, despite their popularity online, some critics have deemed it unfair that Paddy and Nico have been so successful in ‘BGT’, after it emerged they appeared on a similar TV talent show in Spain, ‘Tu Si Que Vales’ (translation: ‘You Are Worth It’), eventually going on to win the series.

Paddy even holds the Guinness World Record for ‘Oldest Acrobatic Salsa Dancer’, which she was honoured with following her appearance on the Spanish show.

Simon Cowell has leapt to Paddy’s defence on Twitter, claiming it isn’t unfair that Paddy is on the show and it is up to the viewers at home who wins the series.
