Madonna has been forced to postpone a show on her current world tour after injuring her knee.

The singer recently launched her mammoth Madame X tour, which will take her around the world for long stints at short venues.

Currently in the middle of a string of performances at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music, Madonna was forced to cancel her show on Monday night, revealing she’d been put on bed rest for three days after injuring her knee.

It’s Hard for Madame X to admit that she is also a human being made of flesh and blood and she must rest for the next 3 days to insure full recovery for her knee,” Madonna wrote on Instagram. “I am not a quitter. This hurts me more than you can imagine.

“It’s time to take those heels and fishnets off for a few days! Thank you for your understanding.. See you very soon!!”

A statement posted on Madonna’s website also said: “Madonna is currently dealing with a knee injury and has been advised rest for the next three days to assist in her recovery. Fans are encouraged to hold onto their tickets pending information on rescheduling.”

This marks the first time since 2012 that Madonna has had to pull out of a show on medical grounds.

She is currently scheduled to return to the stage on Thursday, which is expected to go ahead as planned.

At the beginning of her tour, Madonna previously postponed two dates and cancelled one completely over concerns that her stage wouldn’t be ready in time.

The Madame X tour eventually launched on 17 September and was met with praise from fans and critics, despite arriving on stage more than two hours late on the opening night.
