How's Mark Wahlberg done it? When he's not causing ripples on the Graham Norton show, or claiming he knows who's going to win the Oscars BEFORE the ceremony, the artist formerly known as Markie Mark is one of Hollywood's biggest players, with a catalogue of producer credits ('Entourage', 'Boardwalk Empire') as well as his own impressive acting roster.

So how has the former Calvin Klein model with a troubling back-history reinvented himself so completely? To celebrate today's DVD release of his latest film 'Broken City', we chart his transformation in six easy steps...

Boogie Nights (1997)

A major turning point in the career of Wahlberg. Playing Eddie Adams on the verge of dropping out of high school, Adams meets Rick Horner, who works in the adult film industry. Adams is morphed into a rising actor by the name of Dirk Diggler and begins his life and adventures in California and the pornography industry between the 1970s and 1980s. Critics noticed Wahlberg for his range and abilities as an actor.

The Departed (2006)

Won four Oscars, including Wahlberg's nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance as Dignam, working alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and director Martin Scorsese. In an ongoing battle between the police and an Irish-American organized crime syndicate in Boston. representatives from each group are assigned to infiltrate the opposing organizations to gather intelligence on the daily operations, but when there is a rising suspicion of each operative's double life the race to find the mole becomes a dangerous situation for all.

Max Payne (2008)

Featured Wahlberg as Max Payne, a New York Police Department detective whose family has been murdered. The murderer was not arrested. Years later, Payne continues his search for the murderer by being transferred to the cold case office. Teaming with his ex-partner on the force and a worker at the pharmaceutical company where his wife worked, Payne begins his search. Meanwhile, a drug on the streets is killing people. When a woman dies of the drug, her sister, armed and dangerous, searches for Payne after he is the last to see her alive.

The Fighter (2010)

Tells the life and early career of boxer "Irish" Micky Ward, played by Wahlberg. Under the training of his brother, played by Christian Bale, Ward works his way up the ladder to win the world light weight welterweight title. Following his win, Ward becomes a professional boxer in the 1980s. This film was a labour of love for Wahlberg, whose understated but central performance helped pave the way for Oscars for both Bale and co-star Melissa Leo.

Ted (2012)

Allowed Wahlberg to reveal his comedic talents, playing it straight opposite... a bear. John (Wahlberg) makes a Christmas miracle happen by bringing his one and only friend to life - his teddy bear Ted (voiced by Seth MacFarlane). The two grow up together and John must then choose to stay with his girlfriend (played by Mila Kunis) or keep his friendship with his crude and extremely inappropriate teddy bear.

Broken City (2013)

Shows Wahlberg as ex-police officer turned private detective, Billy Taggart. Taggart is offered $50,000 by the Mayor to investigate his wife over suspicions that she is having an affair. Acting as the eyes and ears of the mayor, Taggart also becomes a scapegoat in the larger scheme of the Mayor's life. Double-crossed, Taggart seeks revenge and justice, becoming a force to be reckoned with and a living nightmare for the Mayor. Wahlberg on form in the genre for which he is most celebrated.
