The show has been a huge hit for Netflix, with eight episodes expected to debut in 2020.

If you’re like us and got through the first eight episodes of Sex Education in record time, then we’ve got some good news for you.

Netflix has confirmed that a second series of the critically-acclaimed show is in the works, and will begin filming this spring.

Laurie Nunn, who created the show and wrote five episodes of the first series, has said of the news: “The reception to series one has been so exciting. Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible.

“I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”

Sex Education quickly won over viewers upon its debut last month, thanks to its frank discussions of sex, diverse cast and unique aesthetic, which its stars have previously said deliberately avoids anchoring it to any specific location or time period.

The show features Asa Butterfield as Otis, a sexually-repressed teenager who winds up dishing out sex advice to his peers, using advice he picks up from his sex therapist mother, played by Gillian Anderson.

Both Asa and Gillian will reprise their roles in series two, alongside newcomers Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa, Aimee-Lou Wood and Connor Swindells, who play Maeve, Eric, Aimee and Adam respectively.

Netflix’s vice president of original content, Cindy Holland, has said: “Laurie Nunn has captured the awkward teenage experience with a lot of heart and humor in Sex Education.

“Along with the Eleven team and executive producer and director Ben Taylor, she’s created a universally relatable series that has resonated with our members around the world.”

There’s no word on when the second series will debut, but if the first is anything to go by, we should expect it to begin streaming around January 2020.
